I aim to explore what is the effect of motivation on test scores and how that effect compares to the effect of cognitive ability. The literature on human capital development has long suggested that motivation plays a vital role in success in cognitive tests. However, precisely estimating the effect of motivation has been challenging due to difficulties with measuring motivation. I plan to address this issue by using the method of estimating ability and motivation that I developed in Alekseev (2019).
